RIP Tim Curry
One of the first movies that I got really into, as a very young kid, was Annie. Tim Curry scared the crap out of me as Rooster. I loved the movie, and watched it constantly, and listened to the record all the time – we’re talking as a 4-5 year old – and I’m certain that he gave me literal nightmares.
When I got into the Rocky Horror Picture Show as a high-schooler, I didn’t even realize that it was the same actor playing Frank N. Furter! I have great memories of going to the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square with my friends, and even checking it out with my dad and younger sisters (one of many weird memories of things that happened with my weird family).
It’s fascinating how a stranger can touch your life at very different stages, and how their work can find you at different times in your life cycle. I hadn’t put together that Tim Curry was a central figure in each of these very formative pieces for me until he passed (on my birthday). RIP.
